London, 8 June, 2018 – Reigning Blancpain GT Sprint Cup champion and 2018 Bathurst winner Stuart Leonard has joined the exclusive Drivers’ Club ahead of the inaugural season of the Electric Production Car Series (EPCS) presented by Electric GT Holdings Inc.
Leonard, currently racing in the 2018 Blancpain GT Series with the WRT Belgian Audi Club Team, continues his rapid rise in international motorsport after joining the sport a mere six years ago. In this short space of time, Leonard’s exploits have seen him win overall at the 2015 Sepang 12-hour, the grueling 2016 24-Hours of Dubai and most recently the history making Bathurst 12-hour where he became the first British driver to take overall honours at Mount Panorama.
Stuart Leonard said: “The Electric GT series has tremendous potential and I am very excited to join the exclusive roster of talented drivers in the Drivers’ Club. I am in no doubt the series will deliver a huge amount of entertainment and excitement for motorsport fans from day one and I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the race car soon. From what I hear, the performance is so impressive.”
The Electric Production Car Series (EPCS) is the first FIA sanctioned, all-electric motorsport category from Electric GT Holdings Inc. The main EPCS race will see 20 international drivers, racing for 10 professional teams in identical all-electric, race-prepared Tesla Model S P100D machines, capable of 0-100kph in 2.1 secs and a top speed of 250kph. Rounds will consist of a 20-minute practice session, a 60-minute qualifying heat, a day race (60km) and a dusk race (60km).
Commencing in Jerez (Spain) on November 3, the European rounds of the championship will also visit Paul Ricard (France), Nürburgring (Germany), Circuit Park Assen (The Netherlands), Silverstone (United Kingdom) and Algarve Portimao Circuit (Portugal).
Electric GT race events will include the Electric Production Car Series, the EGT eKarting Series and the EGT eSports Series: a ground-breaking innovative new virtual racing platform. Each round of the Championship will be a weekend-long festival of technology and innovation for sustainability, in and around the circuits.
Mark Gemmell, CEO of Electric GT Holdings Inc said: “We are pleased to welcome Stuart to the Drivers’ Club ahead of our first round of the Electric Production Car Series. We’re proud that the championship continues to attract the attention of top level drivers and teams and we can’t wait to go racing in November.”
